Kevin Thomas, grandson of Raymond and Myrna, was such a delight. We loved to have him come and visit. He was usually hungry. His favorite meal seemed to be pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy. We loved to feed him. He could really put away the food. Also he liked cookies.
After dinner he was so full of fun. He could put on the most clever "Magic show". He always made us laugh. He had such a great imagination. He had a little business card and called himself, "The Broken Glass Co. Inc". That just shows his sense of humor.
Sometimes he would play the piano for us. He had a wonderful talent. Also, he composed many pieces. He played a special composition at his High School graduation on the school's grand piano. He called the number, "Thunder in C Minor". As he finished the whole audience jumped to their feet in a standing ovation. It was very thrilling. Everyone loved him.
We know he had much pain in his short life. He had a stuffed animal he loved, "The Tazmanian Devil". He said it took part of the pain for him. He had Cystic Fibrosis, and it is a very difficult disease. He had a lung transplant in April of 1997. He had two live donor's Rowan Ellsworth and Marlin Whetten. It was too much for his heart and he died on the April 14th. He is buried in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, Arizona. It was so hard for us all.
One of his good friends, James Badger, wrote a poem for Kevin called:
The Day That Kevin Died
It was a dark and dismal day, On the day that Kevin died.
The heavens shut their dreary doors, To keep their light inside.
A few songs were left unfinished, Many had yet to be played.
In my mind I still can hear, The music that he made.
My deepest soul was pained to see, The death of my dear friend.
To see his lifelong symphony, Reach an untimely end.
I sought solace everywhere, And found it beneath a tree.
The wind whispered through the leaves, The leaves whispered unto me.
They said that everything must pass, And everything must die.
To ride in Gods' Chariot, To His Kingdom in the sky.
So I'll not mourn for Kevin, Though he is gone abroad.
For he is up in heaven, Giving concerts unto God.

I remember all the balloons Amy "set free" in Kevin's honor at the graveside ceremony. Many white balloons in a beautiful blue sky.
