Quiet Books

An excerpt from my (Karen's) journal March 11, 1990

PJ was quite a handful in Sacrament Meeting today.  Bruce was on the stand of course as the new  ward clerk.  PJ was tired hungry and being "bugged" by his sister.  He knocked over Ed Bodily's briefcase in  the aisle, which scared him (PJ). He let out a howl and took off down the aisle.  I caught him before he got too far, then had a hard time getting him settled down with a bottle. 

Later he was drinking his bottle but "humming" loudly also just making loud noises like "gooba-gooba," etc.  Then Rachel began tormenting him and he started howling again.  This time I took him out for awhile (not letting him down though).  We came back in then and he got interested in the quiet book the rest of the meeting (25min).  I think maybe next week some cheerios and more quiet book pages!

We later found that the quiet book lost its pieces and Cheerios just made a mess.  The best quiet time solution was homemade quiet books.  The kids only got to look at them during the Sacrament, no other time.  They worked pretty well!
