Friends

Bruce went apartment hunting he found a basement apartment for rent, and no lease was required. Great! Seemed clean and quiet etc. So he moved us in! Was a nice place too. Bruce enjoyed the 7 ft. bathtub in the place. He could lie down in the tub completely We liked the apartment. 

The owners had their sister and brother-in-law living above us in the house. House came furnished with 60s’ yard sale furnishings. The folks (Lee and Bonnie Caldwell) upstairs were nice and mostly quiet. We purchased raw milk from them as well. The feel in the apartment was better. Christmas time came and this year we headed to Nampa for the holidays.

Upon our return back to the apartment after Christmas the Caldwells inform us that another sibling was to be married and the owner wanted to make it available for them, meaning we must find a third apartment!! Colony Inn Motel was offering studio rooms for the semester so we moved in there. Was pretty fine except for mail time. People would jog to the office to see if thy got a letter. Sure caused our apartment to bounce, ours was the corner apt upstairs, but at least we were out of the PIT!

 

Later years took us to Apex Stake in NC. Bruce was serving as bishop. The area was growing rapidly. New people moved into our ward each week. Technology types with computer skills abounded the because of RTP (Research triangle park).

One family show up and I happened to be in the front foyer. They came up to me and said “Do you remember us” I didn’t right off, but they had recognized me.they were was the Caldwells that had kick us out!. They had not wanted to, but her older brother asked her to. 

The Caldwells moved in and became friends. They often joked how they had kicked the bishop out of an apartment! Didn’t bother us any, we laughed about that situation many times.  

Bonnie was quite a friendly person.  I admired how she could move into a ward and make so many friends so rapidly. She was instrumental in getting the stake organised to perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored dream coat.  As I think about friends over the years I have learned how wonderful friends are and how much each adds to another's life. Two of my favorite sayings are, "you can learn something from everyone," and "add new friends but treasure the old, one is silver and the other is gold"
